Pay by plate at a station or through HotSpot

You need your licence plate to start a session. Use a nearby pay station or the HotSpot app. Pay stations accept coins, debit, tap credit and smartphone payment. You do not need to park immediately beside a station; signs identify the paid area and zone.

You can add time through HotSpot or another pay station. A broken pay station does not remove the payment requirement. Try a nearby station or HotSpot, then report the station problem to 311 or contactus@311.halifax.ca.

Register even if Saturday’s first hour is free

A vehicle without a registered session can be ticketed during Saturday paid hours in B, C and H. Start a session at a pay station or in HotSpot even for a short errand. The pay station does not charge a fee to start the free session.

HotSpot charges its own service fee even during a free first hour. The city lists a $0.10 per-transaction choice, $2 monthly plan or $20 annual plan. Those charges are separate from parking rates. An app subscription is not required if you use a pay station.

Weekday rates, zone checks and support

Weekday rates changed July 15, 2026. The source’s hourly table varies by zone and time. The table below preserves all eight zones and ten paid-hour columns, including the published daily maximum. The noon column is labelled clearly here; the source labels that column “12 a.m.” between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

HotSpot technical issues go to its provider, including 1-855-712-5888, rather than 311. Municipal parking-sign and station questions go to 311. Commercial vehicles are limited to two hours on-street without moving under the city’s stated rule.
