Reception hall capacity and what is included

The upper-level hall has hardwood floors, a stage and a kitchen. The 195-person limit includes everyone present: guests, building monitor, DJ or band members and other staff. Do not plan for 195 guests plus suppliers.

Included equipment is 15 eight-foot rectangular tables, two six-foot rectangular tables, 19 five-foot round tables seating eight, and 200 chairs. The kitchen includes a fridge, oven, freezer and microwave. A projector, screen, speaker and microphone are also listed. Catering, dishes, linens, decorations, bar service, music and other equipment are the renter’s responsibility.

2026/27 rental prices and extra charges

The fee table separates April-to-December peak season from January-to-March off-season. Rates apply to the April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027 fee year, subject to the earlier closure after March 28. Tax is extra. Hourly cleaning fees apply in addition to the listed rent.

A full-day wedding or special event has booking access from 9 a.m. to midnight and cleanup from midnight to 1 a.m. A $300 deposit and signed agreement secure the date. Music can add SOCAN and ReSound royalties; the page lists dance fees of $68.05 and $30.62 respectively. Confirm the fees for your event format in the rental package.

Access needs and bar-service requirements

The main-level entrance is reached by a steep paved path from the parking lot. People who cannot safely walk or roll down the slope are encouraged to be dropped at the entrance. The bottom level is not accessible. Discuss access needs before committing to the venue.

Alcohol requires a licensed catering or private bar-service company. The company obtains the appropriate liquor licence, supplies and runs the bar, handles cleanup and provides at least $5 million commercial general liability coverage with liquor included and Halifax Regional Municipality named as additionally insured. A licence copy is required two weeks before the event and must be posted. Alcohol can only be consumed or sold during licensed times.

Cancellation, date changes and the deposit

Weekday hourly rentals require 30 days’ notice for a full rental-charge refund. Weddings, special events and weekend bookings require 90 days’ notice, and the $300 deposit is not refunded when cancelling. Full rental fees apply when booked or cancelled less than 90 days before the booking.

For date changes inside 90 days, the page allows changes with 30 days’ notice when the new date is within 90 days of receiving the notice. The deposit can transfer within those conditions. The page separately describes returning the damage deposit after an event without damage; this is different from cancellation treatment. Have staff confirm the agreement’s deposit conditions.

Booking contact, closing time and cleanup

Email boatclub@halifax.ca or call 902-490-4688. The availability calendar is normally updated Mondays except holidays. A visible gap is not a confirmed booking. The city says it will take no bookings past March 28, 2027 because of renovations.

Events and music end at midnight. Guests leave and the renter completes teardown by 1 a.m. Return tables and chairs to storage, separate recycling, clean the kitchen and remove event materials. This is a non-smoking facility. The venue’s sound exemption allows amplified sound until midnight, not past cleanup time.
