Position Summary
Acuren Group is recruiting an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Structural Engineering team. Acuren is one of North America's largest providers of integrated inspection, testing, and engineering services, operating across 110+ locations and serving clients in the oil & gas, power, petrochemical, and building infrastructure sectors.
In this role, you will develop hands-on expertise in structural integrity assessment, fitness-for-service evaluations, and field inspection programs - working directly with clients across industrial facilities, plant sites, and civil infrastructure. Under the mentorship of senior structural engineers, you will grow toward independent project leadership and, in time, the professional certification responsibilities that come with it.
Responsibilities
Field Inspection & Structural Programs
Travel to client sites to lead and oversee structural inspection programs for industrial structures, buildings, platforms, and civil infrastructure
Perform condition assessments of steel, concrete, and wood structures, identifying deficiencies and recommending remediation strategies
Conduct and support lifting equipment inspections (cranes, hoists, rigging, and custom lifting fixtures) in accordance with ASME B30 and applicable provincial standards; progress toward signing off on lifting equipment inspection certifications
Operate in industrial environments including refineries, chemical plants, and power generation facilities; field travel is expected up to 50% of the time depending on client scheduling
Engineering Analysis & Assessment
Support fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments for structural systems and mechanical equipment - including storage tanks, pressure vessels, and pipelines - in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 and related standards
Develop and apply finite element analysis (FEA) models to evaluate structural integrity under various loading conditions (pressure, gravity, thermal, displacement)
Assist with structural analysis and design for rehabilitation, repair, and load-upgrade projects
Integrate field inspection data (LiDAR scans, UT thickness, NDT results) into engineering models to support accurate, defensible assessments
Project & Client Delivery
Act as site lead on structural inspection projects, managing field activities, client communication, and timely report delivery
Prepare professional engineering reports documenting findings, analysis, and recommendations
Proactively understand client requirements and identify opportunities for additional Acuren services
Follow up with clients on implementation of recommendations and support ongoing inspection program planning
Manage work within budget and schedule, ensuring efficient use of resources
Requirements
University degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Mechanical Engineering considered with relevant structural coursework
Membership in, or eligibility for, the applicable provincial engineering association (P.Eng. in progress); registration as an EIT required
Genuine interest in structural integrity and inspection work; prior co-op or project experience in structural analysis, industrial inspection, or a related field is an asset
Familiarity with structural engineering standards (e.g., NBCC, CSA S16, ACI 318) and exposure to pressure equipment or mechanical standards (API, ASME) is a plus
Proficiency in structural analysis software and/or FEA tools is an asset
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, client-ready technical reports
Ability to work effectively in industrial environments and comply with site safety requirements
Understanding of, and commitment to, applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation, ISO systems, and Acuren's Safety and Quality Management Systems
Proficiency in MS Office; valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving record required
