Location: Various Sites and Community-based Locations Throughout Nova Scotia
Department: Services and Programs Throughout Nova Scotia Health
Type of Employment: Permanent, Assignments, and Casual Relief Opportunities Available
Union: Based on Bargaining Unit and Constituent Union/Non-Union Position

About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is actively working to hire internationally educated health care professionals, Radiation Therapy, Radiological Technologists, CT Technologists, MRI Technologists, and Nuclear Medicine Technologists, across the province. The Technologist performs a variety of diagnostic or therapeutic procedures requiring the use of ionizing radiation, applying the ALARA principle, while continuously remaining responsive to and responsible for each patient in their care. The Technologist is responsible for effective communication in a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary environment while fostering a culture of safety in the workplace.

Note to international health care professionals: Nova Scotia Health is not working with any international recruitment agency or person offering expedited licensing or employment pathway into Nova Scotia Health for an additional fee. Please know that you are working directly with us and there are no charges or fees to be paid to any external agencies or person.

Licensure of Internationally Educated Medical Imaging or Radiation Therapy Professionals

The Nova Scotia Regulator of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NSRMIRT) is the regulatory body for medical radiation technologists (MRTs) and diagnostic medical sonographers in Nova Scotia. Recently, NSRMIRT introduced a new, streamlined approach to the assessment and registration process for internationally educated medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals (IEMIRTPs), providing a faster and more predictable pathway to licensure in Nova Scotia.

To work as a medical imaging or radiation therapy professional (MIRTP) in Nova Scotia, individuals who have completed an educational program in medical imaging or radiation therapy outside of Canada must be registered with NSRMIRT. The registration process for IEMIRTPs differs from that for Canadian-educated applicants, as their education and skills must be assessed to ensure they meet the entrance-to-practice standards set in Canada.

For more information about the expedited licensure process for applicants from seven designated countries, and to apply, please visit the NSRMIRT website.

Important Note: The document assessment process can begin before arriving in Canada. Applicants can start the assessment process from anywhere in the world, which can shorten the time between arrival in Canada and licensure as a MIRTP. National exams are available through virtual proctoring, allowing IEMIRTPs to take the exams from outside Canada. For any questions related to the application process, please contact info@nscmirtp.ca.
