Role summaryWe are hiring a Halifax-based General Manager to own the P&L for two of our businesses, growing EBITDA national revenue. This is an operator-builder role for someone who has run a company, ideally a start-up, rather than managed a function inside a large organization.
The BusinessesThe GM leads two healthcare brands within WHL Holdings, a global healthcare and technology group.
- a network of medical clinics in Nova Scotia. The mandate is to make the clinics more efficient, lift EBITDA and add revenue through new service lines.
- a virtual mental health platform tailored to veteran & first responders . The mandate is national growth through payer relationships and referral volume.
Physicians & mental health providers work with the businesses as independent contractors, so the GM leads by influence, commercial credibility and good economics rather than by line authority.
Key ResponsibilitiesP&L ownership and finance
- Own the combined P&L, annual budget, forecasts and monthly reporting for both practices
- Drive margin improvement through billing, scheduling, staffing and clinic-efficiency changes.
- Build the KPI scorecard and operating rhythm the group CRO, CFO and board rely on.
Growth and sales
- Build national revenue through payer, insurer, employer and government relationships, including referral and contract pipelines.
- Launch and scale new service lines inside the Nova Scotia clinics, from business case through to profitable operation.
- Develop pricing, positioning and a repeatable sales process for B2B and payer channels.
Operations and people
- Lead clinic managers, billing and admin staff, and build out the team as the businesses scale.
- Earn the trust of independent physicians and negotiate fair, commercially sound arrangements.
- Visit Nova Scotia clinics regularly and travel across Canada to open new markets.
Governance
- Work within a shared-authority model: the GM runs the business day to day, and spend, pricing and hiring above agreed thresholds go to the group CRO or CFO.
What success looks like at 12 months- EBITDA: a measurable uplift from billing, scheduling and clinic-efficiency improvements, against a target agreed in the first 90 days.
- Revenue: new payer contracts signed and referral volume growing quarter on quarter.
- New service line: at least one new service live in the clinics and contributing positive margin.
- Team stability: low physician and staff turnover, strong physician relationships and a clear monthly operating rhythm.
QualificationsMust have
- Has run a company or business unit with full P&L accountability, ideally in the $5M to $15M revenue range.
- Proven sales and growth record: built revenue, won contracts and developed new channels or products.
- Strong finance skills: budgeting, forecasting, margin analysis and cash management.
- Entrepreneurial track record, ideally in a start-up or high-growth company where they built the playbook rather than inherited it.
- Operational leadership in a fast-growing business, including hiring and building teams.
- Based in Halifax, and willing to travel about 25% of the time across Nova Scotia and Canada.
- Credibility and temperament to lead independent professionals, such as physicians, through influence.
Strongly preferred
- CPA designation or an accounting background.
- Experience selling to institutional buyers such as insurers, governments or large employers.
Nice to have
- Experience in healthcare, multi-site service businesses or a regulated industry.
- M&A, integration or partnership experience.
