Job description:
Bookkeeper & Client Manager - Part-Time, Hybrid
Avanti Tax, Bookkeeping & Consulting | Bedford/Halifax, NS
About the opportunity:
Avanti is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced, organized bookkeeper who wants to help build the bookkeeping side of the practice.
This position is part-time to start, with the opportunity for increased hours, responsibility, and compensation as the practice grows. You’ll take over existing bookkeeping clients, coordinate client follow-ups, and work directly with the owner to improve processes and deliver excellent service.
As we bring on additional bookkeepers/client managers, we anticipate this person taking an increasingly important leadership role - helping train and supervise team members, coordinate workloads, and review bookkeeping work for accuracy and consistency.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients using QuickBooks.
- Record and review transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items.
- Prepare routine financial reports and maintain accurate, organized records.
- Support payroll processing and GST/HST return preparation, as required.
- Follow up with bookkeeping and tax clients to collect documents, clarify information, track deadlines, and provide status updates.
- Keep client files moving toward completion and refer technical tax questions to the owner.
- Help develop efficient bookkeeping processes and client service procedures.
- As the team grows, help onboard, train, and supervise new bookkeepers and coordinate their work.
- Protect confidential client and business information.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of relevant bookkeeping experience, with the ability to manage routine bookkeeping independently.
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks.
- Working knowledge of reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Clear, professional communication and confidence working directly with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple client files and competing deadlines.
- Interest in growing into a leadership role as the practice expands.
- Personal or corporate tax preparation experience is an asset.
- Experience with TaxDome or similar client management software is an asset.
- Previous experience training or supervising others is an asset.
Work arrangement and growth:
This is a hybrid position combining work from our office with remote work. Initial hours, schedule, and compensation will be agreed upon based on experience and the needs of the practice.
We’re looking for someone who wants to grow with Avanti and help shape its bookkeeping team. Hours and compensation will be reviewed as the client base, responsibilities, and team expand.
Candidates with existing bookkeeping clients are welcome to apply; arrangements for continuing to serve those clients can be discussed.
- Work Location: Hybrid remote in Bedford, NS
Pay: CA$30.00 per hour, 15 hours a week.
